The Benefits of Singing
My latest Pub Choir at The Turk’s Head in Twickenham has been more of a success that I ever could have imagined. 35 to 45 singers have turned out in good voice over the past 3 sessions, and enjoyed singing favourites including Let’s Go Fly a Kite, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and Sweet Caroline. While for many it is a great opportunity for a night out with friends (not forgetting the chance to share a few bottles of Prosecco!), it never ceases to amaze me how many ‘singers’ approach me at the end of each session to tell me how therapeutic and energising they found the session. “It’s like therapy, the stresses of the day have gone”, and “I feel like I’ve done a full body workout!” are just two comments that stick in my mind.
Next week, I begin my new Good Morning Choir at Elleray Hall in Teddington. It may be a 9.30am start, but what better way to set yourself up for the day, or enjoy a mid-week mental workout, for an hour or so on a Wednesday morning. No matter what kind of day or week you are having, immersing yourself in something different and engaging, surrounded my some new, friendly faces will surely contribute to your mental well-being. I hope to see some of you there!
